                                 DAV Crow Wing County Chapter 22 and Auxiliary
                                             September Minutes/ Newsletter
 
 
Meeting was called to order at 7 P.M. Opening ceremony and prayer were observed.
 Roll call of chapter officers was taken and Adjutant Tony read minutes of last meeting.
25 members were present.
Minutes of the July meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer Report was given and approved.
 
A motion was made and approved at the August meeting to donate $500 to the St Cloud VA for a golf card to be used by veteran residents.
 
Sale of raffle tickets for the “Pledge Quilt” amounted to $2800 of which $1400 was donated to defray cost of operation of the Central Lakes College Veterans Resource Center. The center assists veterans in many ways to enable them to attain a college degree; at present there are 280 plus veterans attending CLC.
 
Motion was made and approved to donate a $300 debit card to the family of an Iraq war veteran who is currently serving in Iraq. The family with 5 children is having some difficulty and chapter 22 members decided this is one area we can help local, currently serving military veterans.
 
Bob Bradford gave a  presentation on Lakes Area Accessibility Ramps.
 
Commander Tim introduced Four (4) new members. The new members are Leroy Nordby, Chester Moon, Ben Miller and Bob Hall (see these new members receiving their new member certificates in the Photo Section)
 
Thank you letter from Veterans on the Lake in Ely MN was read thanking members of chapter 22 for the donation of an electric wheel chair. Members of Chapter 22 and Auxiliary made and overnight trip to Ely to deliver the wheelchair. Veterans on the Lake Resort, is a not-for-profit organization will provide a barrier-free setting for a memorable outdoor recreation experience for disabled veterans, veterans, their families, friends and supporters; designed "With Veterans in Mind" while recognizing what they have contributed to and sacrificed for our nation. http://veterans-on-the-lake.com/
 
 Sickness and distress report: Chapter 22 member Arnold Kinney passed away in September.
 
Coming events:
DAV fall conference will be held in Brainerd on October 10 and 11. See the State DAV web page for more information. http://www.davmn.org/
 
Westgate Mall Non-Profit day will be held November 8, 2008 at 9 am. Sign up sheet was passed to help staff the Chapter 22 display table. Chapter 22 was present last year at this event, which helps us promote our activities and information on what our organization is about.
 
Preparations are being made to be part of the Veterans Day observance in Brainerd along with the VFW and Am Legion.
 
Motion was made and approved to have the Chapter 22 Color Guard/Rifle Squad be available 
 On the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month for funerals at the State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls. The color guard commander will do coordination and notification of the squad.
 
Chapter members are reminded to keep track of any and all volunteer activities they participate in. The Adjutant will submit a list of activities to the MN Department each month.
 
 Motion was made and approved to discontinue having summer meetings in neighboring towns in Crow Wing County. All future meetings will be held at the VFW Club in Brainerd as noted on the monthly calendar.
 
Motion was made and approved to have monthly meetings separate from chapter events such as the Christmas party and summer picnic. In the future these events will be held on another day or evening.
 
Our Memorial Service was observed and the Chaplin gave the prayer
