Comrades & Auxiliary,
September brings us our annual Forget-Me-Not fundraiser. We meet at the VFW in Hutchinson on Friday and Saturday Sept. 12 & 13 at 8:00 AM. We will be served breakfast at that time and then go out and sell the little blue flowers. All income from these sales goes towards purchase and repair of our handicap equipment and helping those in desperate need. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! I can use some volunteers even if it is only for 1 hour. The DAV will pay for breakfast and lunch for all volunteers. I can use some volunteers from Glencoe and Litchfield to sell in those towns also. We have permission for this fundraiser anytime during the month of September. Please contact me at 320-275-3453.
Our clothing and aluminum collection continues to do very well as the trailer is filled about every 35 - 40 days. That is 10,000 lbs each time. Thank you for your help in these programs.
Everyone that came to the picnic in August seemed to enjoy the pork chops, chicken, pot luck and camaraderie of everyone. About 50 members and guests were in attendance. Very well done by all!! It was good to see the new faces there.
As I receive legislative issues from the State and National, I have been forwarding them to everyone that has e-mail. We are relying on you to contact the proper legislators and tell them your feelings on issues. We can make a difference. If you want to receive this letter and other correspondence by e-mail please send me your address at vlkarg@hutchtel.net. We will put you on the list. John Wabbe is doing a good job as our legislative chairman as he shares his mailings at our meetings. Thank You John!
By now everyone is tired of all the political ads on TV of each candidate cutting each other down. It is too bad they don't spend as much time telling us what they are going to do for us. Please get out and vote on November 4.
Remember, if you have a change of address to please contact me. I get several returned mailings because of this. You are important to the DAV but we need to know where you are in order to communicate.
We have handicap items in the warehouse for those in need to include power wheelchairs, manual chairs, walkers, canes, crutches, shower stools, and other items. Just contact me and I will deliver.
Remember, September 14 at the State Capitol mall is the Korean War Veterans anniversary celebration, Chapter #1 is sponsoring a memorial ceremony in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the Korean Memorial. It starts at 1:30 PM. A reception will follow at the nearby National Guard Armory.
Congratulations are in order to LeeAnn Karg as she was elected as the National Chaplain for the Auxiliary for the next year and also to Van Karg as he was elected as 14th District National Executive Committeeman presiding over Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. This is a 2 year term. Dan Hill of Virginia, Minn. is the Alternate. Best of luck to all!
Mark your calendars - Sept. 12 & 13 Forget-Me-Not Drive; Sept 14, Korean Memorial Ceremony; September 23, meeting night; October 2-4, National DAVA Auxiliary Fall Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio; October 10 & 11 Sate Fall Conference in Brainerd; October 25, 14th District Meeting in Fargo, North Dakota; October 28, meeting night.
All of our meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the VFW in Hutchinson. Meal at 6:00 PM, free and meeting at 7:00 PM.
Tell your friends and neighbors about all the good things the DAV and Auxiliary does for our veterans. All of our income goes to help veteran's services. We are the only service organization that can say that truthfully! If you know someone that might be eligible to belong to the DAV and/or Auxiliary, please contact me. I will explain our benefits. The DAV and Auxiliary both have membership incentive programs for life membership and I would be happy to explain them.
Remember to volunteer with our projects! Everyone can help.
Wishing all a good Autumn
