DAV Crow Wing County Chapter 22 and Auxiliary October Minutes/ Newsletter Meeting was called to order at 7 P.M. Opening ceremony and prayer were observed. Roll call of chapter officers was taken and Adjutant Tony read minutes of last meeting. 13 members were present. Five Auxiliary members were present Minutes of the September meeting were read and approved. Treasurer Report was given and approved. No Visitors or new members were present. Sickness and Distress: Ron Kristofferson had surgery on October 14 and is expected home from the St Cloud Hospital on October 17. Don Bode has spent much of the summer at the Mpls VA Hospital and is now home. Cards will be sent to our comrades. Application for new membership was approved for the following new members, Douglas Barchus and Randy Woodward. Auxiliary members approved application for auxiliary membership for Linda Barchus. Letter was read informing us of the annual Christmas Party on Dec. 10, for Veterans in the Minneapolis and St Cloud VA hospitals. Motion was made and approved to donate $300 to each hospital for their respective Parties. Membership was informed by Color Guard Commander that we now have a reimbursement number for the stipend received by the Color Guard when providing services for funerals at the State Veterans Cemetery as the Memorial Rifles or at local funerals. The Color Guard needs to have a minimum of 4 members to provide services. Purchase of a bugle to be used at Color Guard functions was discussed and membership approved a motion to purchase an automated bugle at the cost of $500. New business: Discussion was held on having more decorum and adherence to proper meeting rules at our monthly meetings. Members wishing to address the membership need to be recognized by the commander before speaking. Discussion was held on this based on information members received at the DAV Fall Conference leadership seminar. It was decided to have a executive committee meeting (which will consist of the chapter officers) 1 hour prior to the monthly meeting to set an agenda and go over any correspondence etc. to make the regular meeting progress more smoothly and timely. We will be trying a joint DAV/DAVA monthly meeting to see how it works out. Motion was made and carried to have permanent Committee Chairs to help plan events and functions; the committees decided on are as follows. 1. Fund Raising Committee, Volunteer Chairman: Brian Ray Form and ad hoc committee of volunteers to plan, conduct and report on approved fundraisers according to DAV Department and National regulations. 2. Ceremonies Committee, Volunteer Chairman Jim Kostek Form and ad hoc committee of volunteers to organize Ceremonies such as chapter presence on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Bataan Death March observance, Veterans Day, Color Guard/Firing Squad duties for funerals and other functions. 3. Recruitment Committee, Volunteer Chairman Tony Wasserbauer Form and ad hoc committee of volunteers to visit the National Guard Armory, Camp Ripley, Central Lakes College etc. to present information on what the DAV/DAVA is about and to recruit new members. 4. Accommodations Committee, Vacant (Steve and Karen Rosenow volunteered to chair the Christmas Party) Form and ad hoc committee to organize and set up the Christmas party, summer picnic, and other chapter gatherings. If you as the membership have any other suggestions or comments please let the chapter officers know of them or better yet attend a monthly meeting and voice concern or suggestion. Coming Events: Westgate Mall Non-Profit day will be held November 8, 2008 from 9 am to 6 pm. Chapter 22 was present last year at this event, which helps us promote our activities and information on what our organization is about and how it is involved with the community. Volunteers are still needed help staff the booth. Veterans Day Program Tuesday Nov 2008. All Chapter 22 members are requested to attend the program at the Riverside Elementary School honoring all veterans at 8:15 am. Color Guard members are requested to wear their uniform. At 10 am we will move to the Brainerd H.S. gym for a program honoring veterans and then at 11 am will be the ceremony at the All Veterans Memorial at the CWC Court House. November 12, 2008 is the Grand Re-Opening of the Central Lakes College Veterans Resource Center. Chapter 22 members are requested to come to the center for a day of celebrating our Veterans and the newly expanded campus veterans center with special panel presentations by Mexican American and Native American Veterans. Veteran Presentations are at 10:00-10:50 am and 12:00-12:50 pm in the Chalberg Theatre and E203. Reception: 1:15pm The Cube Ribbon Cutting: 2:00 pm CLC Veterans Resource Center. Think Ahead: Nominations for new chapter officers will be conducted at the February, 2009 meeting. Elections will be held at the March 2009 meeting. Installation of new officers will be held at the April 2009 meeting and the State DAV convention will be held April 30-May 2, 2009 in Duluth. Christmas Party: Mark your calendars for Wednesday December 3 for the annual Christmas Party. Social Hour at 5:30 pm and Dinner at 6:15 pm. More information will be in next month’s newsletter. Chapter members are reminded to keep track of any and all volunteer activities they participate in. The Adjutant will submit a list of activities to the MN Department each month.
