NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS

On Monday, May 8, 2007 Itasca Chapter 13 Commander David Valtinson and Chapter 13 Sr Vice Cdr Larry Mattfield presented four $250.00 scholarships to four Itasca Community College nursing students. Heather Kossow is a graduate of the Nursing school while three Amy Jordan, Sandra Virkus and Rachael Giusti are in their first year.

Each Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA and must continue in a nursing career.

Itasca Chapter 13 created an Scholarship Endowment Fund with the Itasca Community College Nursing Department in 1983. Interest earned from this endowment fund provides scholarships for nursing students.

TRAILER PREPERATIONS

Working on an idea from the Carlton Chapter, members of Itasca Chapter 13 are busy preparing their new trailer/float for summer parades. The trailer is a 7'X21' utility trailer the Chapter purchased to pull in parades to give exposure of Chapter 13, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans organizations. Local veterans will be invited to ride on the trailer during parades.

Chapter Commander Dave Valtinson says "We hope to make as many people aware of the DAV and the sacrifices disabled veterans have made and continue to make because of their disabilities. Also to let other disabled veterans know that the DAV exists and that we are here to help them"

Based on the successful Carlton Chapter trailer/float idea, Chapter 13 invites Department members to come and join them at parades or they are willing to bring the float to your location to help spread the word about the DAV.
