In August of 2008, Chapter 9 purchased two new reclining chairs for the DAV Drivers Lounge at the Saint Cloud VA Medical Center. These were made at the Flex-Steel factory in Georgia. They are leather and very comfortable.
The chapter also supplied the St. Cloud State University Higher Education Veterans Program with enough funds to purchase a couch, love seat and a recliner for their lounge area. We also donated a television, DVD player and a water heater for the lounge. We then set up a DAV display of brochures and information.
Because of the need, the chapter rented another storage shed to store all of our donated equiptment for distribution to needy veterans. We also appointed an equiptment manager ( Jeff Lamont) to run the equiptment program. This goes along with the Thrift Donations shed we have which is managed by Greg Waldorf.
Finally, our DAVA personal had their first "Bratwurst Sale" to raise funds for their treasury. Everyone enjoyed the sale and it was successful. Next year they plan to do two of these sales.
Coming up in October, we will be having a Chapter picnic at a local park. When I get the dates, I will announce it. We also hope to have a Christmas party this year.
The membership committee is off to a good start and working on updating our records and looking for new members in both the DAV and the DAVA.
The members are fired up, looking to have a good Forget-Me-Not drive and plan on doing better and better as we go on!
Sincerely,
Fred Anderson, Commander Saint Cloud Chapter 9
